Probate is the legal process that must be completed before an estate can be settled. Most people have never dealt with it before, and it can feel confusing and daunting.

What Exactly Is Probate?
Probate is the legal process followed after someone dies. It involves gathering the deceased's assets, settling any debts, and distributing what remains either according to their will or under the rules of intestacy if there is no will.
Before banks, building societies, or property registries release funds or transfer ownership, they need to see a legal document called a Grant of Probate (or Letters of Administration where there is no will). We apply for the grant on your behalf.
What Happens When There Is No Will?
When someone dies without leaving a will (known as dying "intestate"), the estate doesn't automatically pass to the next of kin. Instead, strict legal rules, known as the Intestacy Rules, determine who inherits what. The process can feel more complicated, but we guide you through every step.
In this situation, the person dealing with the estate is called an administrator (not an executor), and they must apply to the Probate Court for a document called Letters of Administration. We handle this application for you, just as we would a standard Grant of Probate.
